Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine that originated thousands of years ago, with the earliest recorded uses by the Egyptians and Chinese. This practice involves placing cups on the skin to create suction, which is believed to increase blood circulation to the area. Historically, materials like cattle horns, bamboo, earthenware, and eventually glass were used as cups. By creating suction, these cups promote healing by drawing blood to the surface, easing muscle tension, and improving overall blood flow. The method has evolved to include the use of modern materials like silicone and incorporates techniques that enhance its efficacy in treating various ailments.

Cupping therapy works by causing local expansion of the tissue through negative pressure. This process helps mobilise blood flow to promote healing of a broad range of medical ailments. The suction and negative pressure provided by cupping can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and sedate the nervous system, which makes it an excellent treatment for high blood pressure. By drawing impurities to the surface, it is thought to remove toxins. Heat or an equalising agent is used to create suction in the cups.
Cupping has been further developed to open the meridians of the body. Meridians are the 12 main energy channels through which energy flows to every part of the body and through every organ and tissue. There are five meridians on the back that when opened allow invigorating energy to travel the whole length of the body. Cupping has proven as the most efficient way to open these meridians. -
Cupping therapy offers several health benefits. It can help relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and reduce inflammation.
The therapy is also used to alleviate respiratory conditions such as bronchitis and asthma, as well as arthritis and fibromyalgia. Increased blood flow can promote cell repair, relieve painful joints, and even help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue. -
After undergoing cupping therapy, many individuals experience a sense of relaxation and relief from tension or pain. It is common to have circular marks on the skin where the cups were placed, which are generally painless and fade within a few days.
An example of what the skin can look like after a treatment:Healthy blood circulation: mild redness, this shows slight stagnation of toxins in the blood and there is a good blood flow.
Moderate stagnation: This is showing the mark is considerably redder than the healthy blood circulation, it means there is an accumulation of toxins within this area. Blood flow is good but some work still needs to be done.
Severe stagnation: This usually indicates that the injury or ailment is not new and its been left alone for long period of time. the injury will therefore require more time to clear the stagnation
Most report feeling invigorated and increased muscle relief after the treatment. -

Hot Cupping
Price: Starting from £50.
-
Hot cupping therapy involves placing specially designed glass cups on the skin after being heated. The heat intensifies the suction effect created by the cups, which draws blood to the area, helping to increase circulation, release tension, and promote healing. The warm cups help loosen tight muscles and fascia, enhance the flow of energy (Qi), and improve the body’s natural detoxification process.
While traditional cupping therapy relies on suction alone, hot cupping enhances this process by using heat to further open pores and increase blood flow. This combination of heat and suction creates a more profound therapeutic effect, making it ideal for individuals dealing with chronic pain, muscle stiffness, or stress.
-
The treatment begins with a consultation to discuss your health concerns and determine whether hot cupping is suitable for you.
Kelly will prepare the cups by gently heating them to a safe, comfortable temperature. The cups are placed on key areas of the body, often the back, shoulders, or legs.
As the cups are applied, the heat combines with the suction to create a gentle pulling effect. Kelly may move the cups along your skin to target specific muscle groups or areas of tension.
The treatment typically lasts 30-45 minutes, during which time you may feel warmth and mild pressure in the treated areas. Afterward, the cups are removed, and the therapist will ensure that your body is fully relaxed and supported.
-
Deep Muscle Relaxation: The heat and suction work together to help loosen tight muscles, making hot cupping especially effective for chronic pain, muscle stiffness, and tension.
Enhanced Circulation: The warmth of the cups opens blood vessels and promotes better circulation, helping to deliver oxygen and nutrients to tissues and speed up the body’s natural healing process.
Pain Relief: Hot cupping can target areas of deep muscle pain, offering relief for conditions like back pain, joint pain, and muscle spasms.
Detoxification: The suction helps pull toxins and waste from the body’s tissues into the bloodstream, where they can be processed and eliminated by the body’s detox systems.
Stress Reduction: The warmth of the cups, combined with the relaxing effects of cupping, helps alleviate stress, anxiety, and fatigue, leaving you with a feeling of deep relaxation.
Improved Flexibility: By loosening tight muscles and increasing blood flow, hot cupping can help improve joint mobility and flexibility, making it beneficial for athletes or those with limited range of motion.
Skin Health: Hot cupping stimulates blood flow to the skin’s surface, promoting healthy skin and potentially reducing the appearance of cellulite and muscle scars.
-
While traditional cupping is highly effective for relieving muscle tension and promoting overall wellness, the addition of heat in hot cupping intensifies the effects, providing deeper relief and faster results. The warmth from the cups increases circulation even further, helps to open pores for better toxin release, and deeply relaxes the muscles, making it an excellent option for individuals with chronic conditions or severe muscle tightness.
Hot cupping is ideal for those who want a more intense therapeutic experience, as it maximizes the healing benefits of cupping therapy and is particularly effective for long-term pain relief, detoxification, and relaxation.
